Loretta Amelia Rehmann was born in Macklin Saskatchewan on October 6th 1934 and she passed away peacefully on November 10th at the age of 90 years.
She was the eldest of seven children born to Jacob and Katharina Raab, and grew up in the Provost area. She was particularly close to her sister Gertie who she missed dearly after she passed on December 13, 2016. As a girl she attended a one-room school and eventually moved to Oliver BC as a young woman to work as a nursing assistant. One of the nuns at the hospital encouraged her to train as a nurse, noting her evident nurturing qualities at an early age.
Loretta married Norbert Rehmann in 1954 and had seven children. They farmed in Provost until 1960 when they moved to Camrose where they raised their family. The draw to farming returned after Norbert retired and they moved out to the farm by Round Hill in the early 90’s until 2011 where she tended a garden, and had the grandchild out for any occasion. The grandkids were always fed as many treats as they could stomach and allowed to run wild chasing kittens or calves to their hearts content.
Loretta was a magician at hosting huge family gatherings and always ensured no one left hungry.
Loretta was predeceased by her husband Norbert and survived by her seven children; Linda (Doug) Sampson, Judy (Elwyn) Weavill, Robert, Deborah (Brad) Severin, Michael (Brenda), Maxine Knudson and Richard (Christina); 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Camrose. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the charity of one’s choice.
