Levi Saunders
March 22, 1981 – December 22, 2025

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Levi Saunders, age 44, on December 22, 2025. Levi carried himself with extraordinary bravery through the trials and treatment of a rare and aggressive cancer, which ultimately took him from all who loved him.

Levi leaves behind his husband and soulmate of 21 years, Dan Nessel, and their three beloved dogs: Penelope, Isabelle, and Theo. He was deeply loved by his parents, Roy and Pat Saunders, and his sisters Tanis, Debbie (Chris), Kayla, and Jill (AJ). Levi was a proud and devoted uncle to his nieces and nephew: Alana, Adam, Noel, Charley, and Hailey.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Don and Penny Saunders, and Des and Marvis Desautelf, as well as his in-laws, Raymond and Shelley Nessel. 

Levi touched the lives of many—he was a husband, son, brother, and uncle, and will be missed by extended family, close friends, and coworkers alike. He dedicated nearly two decades of service to Agilus Work Solutions, where he was respected for his diligence, integrity, and kindness.

Levi will always be remembered for his compassion, humour, authenticity, and adventurous spirit. He loved spending time at Skeleton Lake with his family, travelling to warm destinations with Dan by his side, and hiking, camping, and exploring off-grid with his dogs. Levi was also famously tech-savvy and proudly served as the family’s go-to tech guru—patiently fixing devices, troubleshooting, and somehow always knowing exactly which button to press.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and care providers at the Cross Cancer Institute, as well as the compassionate palliative care team at St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose, for their exceptional care, kindness, and support at the end of Levi’s journey.

There are few words that can provide solace or explanation when the unthinkable and unfair occurs—when kind-hearted, deeply good humans are no longer walking beside us on this earth. Yet we will hold our memories close and find comfort in knowing how truly blessed we were to have known and loved Levi, and to have been loved by him in return.

A Celebration of Life will be held in summer 2026, with details to be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
