Jeannette Colquhoun Obituary

Jeannette Irene Colquhoun slipped away peacefully on December 30, 2025, at the age of 97 years with family at her side. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Cecile Rurak, son Larry Le Francois (Karen), daughter Catherine (John) Jensen, her grandchildren Nikki (Jamie), Danielle (Sean), Jaime (Andre), her great-grandchildren Michelle (Tyler), Jayden, Emma, Caley; her great-great-grandchildren Grace, Jackson, her many nieces, nephews and their families.

Jeannette was predeceased by her parents, former husbands Bernard Le Francois and Gordon Colquhoun, and siblings Leonie, Laurette, Anita, Henri, Yvonne, Rolen, Alfred Jr. and Albert.

A special thank you to Jean Halliwell for her long-time friendship and support, which continued right up until Mom’s passing.

Jeannette was born on May 6,1928 in Belleview, Manitoba to parents Alfred and Clemence Loiselle, the fifth of 10 children. She grew up on the family farms and attended schools in Walpole, Saskatchewan, Belleview and Grande Clairiere, MB. Most of her earlier adult life was spent raising her family in many locations due to the family being transferred across Canada and Germany, all while being part of the “active Canadian Forces family”. She spent the last 26 years of her working career in the clerical field in the Canadian Military Naval Base in Esquimalt, BC.

Jeannette meticulously cared for her homes, was a member of the Catholic Women’s League, volunteered with her Church, many charities, excelled in many sports, including Women’s Hockey in the 1960’s, and target shooting etc. Because she was always actively doing something, this led to her being jokingly being referred to by Catherine as “My Energizer Bunny”. She was a woman who never sat still. After retirement she remained living in Esquimalt until late 2016, at which time she moved to Tofield Sunshine Villa in Alberta. She enjoyed living there until early 2020. From August 2020 until her passing she lived in Tofield Long Term Care. Jeannette instilled many of her attributes into the next generations, the love and care for pets, enjoyment of swimming, walking, hiking, gardening, and many other activities. Jeannette, with her sharp wit, strength, resolve, and unwavering care for all life demonstrated this with love, and with her ability to be so gentle, calm, and happy holding babies; she could make them quit crying almost every time.

The Family extends their gratitude and thanks to Dr. Angela Juby (Geriatric Medicine), the staff and fellow residents at the Tofield Sunshine Villa for their excellent care and support during Jeannette’s residency there, as well as to Tofield Long Term Care.

Cremation has already taken place, and a family memorial will be held later in the spring/summer with inurnment to follow in the Ryley, Alberta Cemetery.
