Helmut Willi Adloff

March 1, 1936 - May 12, 2026

Helmut (Opa) Adloff of Ohaton, Alberta passed away suddenly with family by his side on May 12, 2026 at the age of 90 years.

Helmut was born in Elbing, Germany.  In 1945, due to the war his family was forced to move south to Guendersen, Germany.  After the war the family then moved to Hamburg, Germany were he started an apprenticeship to become a bricklayer.  In May 1953, the family set sail for Canada and ended up in Coaldale, Alberta, where the family worked in the sugar beets for three harvests, before moving to Edmonton in 1956.  In Edmonton, he got a job with a steel mill.

As most young people, Helmut enjoyed going to the local German clubs to whoop it up, dancing and socializing with others.  Along with his dad, they purchased a farm south of Ohaton in 1959.  He enjoyed working on the farm on the weekends and taking fresh eggs from the neighbors back to the city.

In 1964, Helmut met Erika Lenz.  A few years later, in 1966, they were married and made their forever home on the farm.  He enjoyed working the land as the neighbors could hear him singing while he was on the tractor.  Even after retiring he still stayed active as much as he could.  In fact last fall he still was able to get himself onto the swather and swathed all the crops and disked all the sloughs. 

Helmut liked to travel, family gatherings, playing games with the grandkids and neighbors, and  attending sporting events that the grandkids had.  He would always have time to socialize over a cup of coffee or a couple of wobbly pops.  His sharp-wit and sense of humor will forever be treasured by all that knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Erika; daughter Krista, son Andy (Shauna), daughter Carla (Andy) and son Rick (Sharon); his eight grandchildren, Deklen, Kearah, Mckenna, Lacey, Josh, Darian, Makenzie and Connor.  He also leaves behind his sisters Elfriede and Marianne; many nieces and nephews and family in Germany.

He was predeceased by his parents Ernst and Kate; sister Inge; brother Eckhard and son Kevin.

At Helmut's request a celebration of life will be held at a later date on the family farm.
