Elizabeth "Betty" Kozdrowski Obituary
Elizabeth "Betty" Kozdrowski (Nee Weder)
1940-2026
Elizabeth Kozdrowski of Camrose, Alberta was born March of 1940 in Tofield, Alberta. She was the first born of Ella (nee Kleinschroth) and Adolf Weder. She grew up on the family farm near Kingman, Alberta, along with her younger sister. Betty married the love of her life on June 5, 1959. They had 60 adventurous years together until his passing in 2019.
Due to Walters work, they made many moves throughout the province before they were able to settle down in their own home in Camrose. She lived there until 2023 when it became too hard for her. Another move was in store, and she moved to Faith House in Camrose.
In the early years of marriage, Betty worked at Brown's Grocery in Ryley and later in a clothing store in St. Paul, but her pride and joy was looking after her "Boys". Betty tried her hand at many different crafts and hobbies as the trends changed but stuck with crocheting and knitting which she truly enjoyed. She made many afghan blankets which were given away as well as many kept along with dish and face cloths and hundreds of slippers.
The family took every opportunity to camp and fish, heading out almost every weekend and holiday. Betty's favorite was fishing for perch, and she was also the filleter. In winter, when not out ice fishing, they could be found out on the ice at the curling rink-and trophies were won. Betty always watched the televised bonspiels.
Betty enjoyed cooking for family and friends. When the boys were growing up there was always fresh cookies and her favorite rice krispie squares about. The pantry was also stocked with her home-made jellies, jams and all kinds of pickles. She was proud of her petite, tasty and soft perogies that were always a staple of many meals and every special occasion.
Many of these activities except camping and fishing slowed down after her first big health scare on December 23, 1988, when she underwent a major operation to remove one lung due to cancer. A second bout of cancer resulted in a mastectomy and chemo treatment in 2003. The final blow was being diagnosed with heart failure in early 2019.
She lost this final battle the morning of May 26, 2026, at St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose at the age of 86. She will be dearly missed.
Elizabeth is survived by her son Lyle (Laurel), in-laws Stan (Bernice) Kozdrowski, Rose Lansdown and many dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Walter in 2019, son Lonnie in 2020, her parents Adolf and Ella Weder, sister Rosaline Weder, in-laws John and Jean Kozdrowski, brother-in-law Ernie Lansdown and niece Dianne Kozdrowski.
