Darrell Ronald Higgins (78) of Camrose, Alberta lost his 2 ½ year battle with cancer on August 5, 2023. He peacefully passed with the love of his life Denice by his side. In his final days he was surrounded by his loving family.
Darrell, affectionately known by his children in their younger years as “Ronald McDonald”, was born to Darrell and Joan Higgins on January 4, 1945 in Calgary, Alberta.
He sadly did not have the chance to meet his father, as Darrell (Sr) tragically died in a plane crash as a fighter pilot with the RCAF in North Battleford, Saskatchewan.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife Denice, 4 children, Angela Hoefling (Jason), Andrea, Darren, Daena Wilson (Travis), 8 grandchildren, with 1 grandchild and 1 great-grandchild on the way; as well as survived by his younger brother Bryen (Heddy) sister Marilyn, along with numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own.
He was predeceased by his father Darrell, stepfather Ted Girling and his mother Joan Girling.
Having never met Darrell Sr, young Darrell’s passion and love for airplanes was a way for him to connect with his father. This connection with airplanes continued all through his life as he would go on to start many small businesses as a true Entrepreneur.
Darrell was admired by his family and friends for the incredible talents he had. He was a true musician and performer who was not only a world-class drummer, but because of his amazing artistic gifts he was able to design all of the signage, back-drops and stage props for the many bands he was in. Darrell met the love of his life of 53 years while performing in one of these bands.
He was a man of many talents , dreams and ambitions. We will mourn the passing of this beautiful mind.
May you find your rainbow and your pot of gold. You will be forever missed but never forgotten.
You are invited to attend a celebration of Darrell's life Friday, August 11, 2023 at 2:00pm at Weber's Mount Pleasant Chapel in Camrose, Alberta with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Interment to follow at the Camrose Valleyview Cemetery.
