Alfred Norman Nelson Obituary

Alfred Nelson was born to Nels and Anges Nelson on October 9, 1933, at their family home, on the farm southwest of Kitscoty.  He passed away in Camrose Alberta on November 21, 2022, at the age of 89.  He was predeceased by his parents and five sisters Thelma (George) Hastings, Doris (Ralph) Conlon, Pat (Roy) McAllister, Freda (George) Tokarek and Agnes (Mike) Breen.  He is survived by His loving wife Mae, son Norman with wife Cindy, two grandsons, Nathan with wife Rebecca and Preston, daughter Jane with husband Alain, three brother in laws with numerous nephews and nieces.

Alfred’s father died when he was 8.  When he was 15 it become too difficult to stay on the farm, so the family moved to Lloydminster, Alfred moved in with Jim and Mary Stone with their son Bob.  There he lived for 20 years becoming a part of the family.  Mr. Stone helped Bob and Alfred get their start in farming.  In 1968 Alfred married Mae Stensrud.  They first lived in a trailer in the Stone’s yard and later moved across the road where they raised their two children Norman and Jane.  In 1975 Alfred was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  After losing his foot in a farming accident he retired from farming, so they moved to Vermilion to enjoy their two grandsons.  He also enjoyed the company of many young believers who stayed in their home when they came to Vermilion for college.  After Vermilion they lived in Maple Creek Saskatchewan, for 3 years.  There they had more time to focus on their ministry.  They enjoyed teaching bible truths such as the hope for the future, how close we are to having peace and security and seeing our loved ones again as promised in the Bible.  Once again, they returned to Vermilion and with less responsibility, they could now spend the cold winters in Ohio visiting Norman, Cindy and his boys.  When he was 82, he had the opportunity to visit Jane and Allain in Guatemala, for seven weeks.  He would be found enjoying a nap in the hammock under the palm roof, after helping with their tiny goat farm.

Alfred will always be remembered as being very active and hardworking.  He always made himself available to help others and enjoyed sharing his sense of humor and smile with everyone.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 26, 2022 at the Fort Saskatchewan Kingdom Hall (9965 93 Ave).   The Zoom ID is 87594380283 and password: Alfred
